Our Vacation Experience With Sleep

It has been over two weeks since our vacation to Bali recently. It was a great break and family quality time. The girls had so much fun and overall, it was a pleasant and enjoyable trip. Much better than the ones before.

With my youngest, it had always been a little struggle whenever we travel because she is sensitive to her surroundings. Anything that was new and unfamiliar was very scary for her and she could never sleep well whenever we’re on vacation. Plus the fact that we were traveling, nap schedule always went erratic. That definitely contributed to the restless nights.

Since learning about emotional well-being and its importance when it comes to understanding a child’s fear, anxiety and emotions, I have been more prepared in that sense for our recent trip. My 5 year old had been asking and asking to go for a vacation or in her words “sleep in a hotel room” ever since the school holidays started. In Malaysia, Atopic Eczema is a skin disorder that affects 2 in every 10 people in Malaysia and about 10% – 14% of children below the age of 14. It usually appears for the first time before your child is two. The good news is that most children who have eczema will grow out of the condition by the time they are in their teens. I am lucky that both my daughters do not have eczema, but I know how crazy stressful it is to have this skin disorder as a child because my own brother had it. Growing up, I saw how my mom tried many different type of creams and treatments for him. Thankfully, he has outgrown it by the time he was a teenager.

Unfortunately, for many others, there is no cure for eczema. It can only be managed by educating oneself about the different types of eczema and managing it by minimizing flare ups specifically with diet as well as how the skin comes in contact with water, clothes, soap, detergent etc.

Obviously, eczema is one of the reasons of night...
